Westhampnett tip shuts at 4pm from 1 October and closed on Tuesdays last winter. Midhurst and Bognor times, Christmas closures and the Selsey mobile tip dates.
Chichester’s tip at Westhampnett is open 9am to 6pm every day until 30 September, then 9am to 4pm from 1 October. Last winter it also closed every Tuesday, a change the site’s own page does not mention. You must book a slot online before you drive there.

The tips that serve the Chichester district
The tips are run by West Sussex County Council, not Chichester District Council. Summer hours are from the county’s own centre pages; winter days are from its autumn and winter hours release for October 2025 to March 2026.

The Tuesday closure at Westhampnett is the trap. The centre’s page lists seven-day summer hours and then says only that “between 1 October and 31 March the Recycling Centre will be open until 4pm”. It does not say it closes on Tuesdays. The county’s own release for last winter listed Chichester as open “Monday, Wednesday to Sunday”, and it did the same the winter before, from 1 October 2024. The county has not yet published its release for this winter; it issued last year’s on 26 September. We will confirm the 2026/27 days as soon as it does.

Christmas and New Year
The county’s release for last winter said “all centres will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day”. This year those fall on:
- Friday 25 December 2026
- Saturday 26 December 2026 (Boxing Day itself; the bank holiday is Monday 28 December)
- Friday 1 January 2027
We have not seen the county say whether a centre opens on the substitute bank holiday, Monday 28 December. The booking system shows which days have slots, so check it before you load the car. The county warns that “demand is high over certain periods, such as bank holidays”.
Selsey and the Witterings mobile tips
A mobile recycling service visits Selsey (East Beach car park) and the Witterings (Marine Drive car park) on alternate Thursdays, 8.15am to 3pm, with no booking needed. The dates are from the county’s mobile centres page.

So between 17 December and 14 January, Selsey has no visit for four weeks.
Booking rules
From the county’s Book to Recycle page:
- Up to five visits per calendar month per household.
- Book up to 14 days ahead, or the same day if a slot is free. Phone bookings on 01243 642106.
- Slots are 15 or 30 minutes; Midhurst and Bognor use 15-minute slots.
- You need the vehicle’s registration, and it cannot be changed after booking.
- You do not need to book if you arrive on foot, by bicycle or on a mobility scooter.
Vans are restricted. Neither Chichester nor Midhurst will take Luton vans, horseboxes, twin-axle trailers, tippers, flatbeds or vehicles over 3.5 tonnes; Midhurst also has a 2.2 metre height barrier, and Bognor will not take trailers of any kind.
