We checked 18 independent Chichester shops, from a South Street toy shop to Cowdray's deli, for opening hours and addresses. Updated November 2026.
Chichester has 18 independent shops worth a Christmas shopping trip in 2026, and this guide puts them in one place with opening hours, addresses and what each one sells. Winter’s Moon, The Sussex Bookshop, Whirligig Toys and Little Cowdray at Fernleigh are the names most people land on. We checked each entry on 5 November 2026 against the shop’s own site, and say where we could not.
We have not shopped at any of these for this guide, and nothing here is a review. The starting point is Chichester BID’s 2026 Christmas shopping guide, written by the business group that represents these shops, so its praise is not independent. Shops often change their hours close to Christmas, so check before a special trip.

Dates that affect a shopping trip
- Saturday 21 November: the Christmas lights switch-on. The BID says parking at Avenue de Chartres is free from 4pm that day, and shop windows go on show for its Christmas in Never Land competition.
- 21 November to 24 December: Tinker Bell’s Christmas Treasure Hunt, a free family trail through the city centre streets and shop windows.
- 4 to 6 and 11 to 13 December: the Chichester Christmas market on North Street and East Street. The BID says you get a third hour’s parking free at Avenue de Chartres on these dates when you buy two hours through MiPermit.
We found no late-night shopping dates in the BID’s 2026 Christmas pages on 5 November. Several shops above take the Chichester Gift Card, which the BID sells for spending across the city. Our parking page has every car park, and our Christmas travel page covers trains and buses.
How we chose
These are independent Chichester shops chosen on what can be checked: they sell things people give as presents, they are named in Chichester BID’s 2026 Christmas guides or directory, and they have a public record of their own. Between The Lines, Whirligig and Comics, Games & Coffee have shops elsewhere, and we say so. We read each shop’s own website on 5 November 2026 and looked for closure notices. Where a shop’s site gives no hours, we used the BID directory and say so, and where the two disagree we used the shop’s. BID listings are undated, so treat those hours as a guide.
