Woodhorn Farm has opened its third Cow Shed at Graylingwell Pavilion: unhomogenised organic milk, six milkshakes and local produce, self-service.
Fresh organic milk from a farm on the edge of Chichester is now on sale in Graylingwell Park. Woodhorn Farm opened its third Cow Shed inside the Pavilion on Friday 23 October.
It is a self-service shop built around vending machines. You fill a bottle with milk, buy a milkshake or a coffee, or pick up cheese, butter and eggs from a chilled machine. The farm announced the opening on its website the same morning.
What is on sale
The farm lists:
- fresh organic milk, pasteurised but not homogenised, so the cream sits on top
- milkshakes in six flavours: chocolate, strawberry, banana, vanilla, salted caramel and a changing flavour of the week (for Halloween it is “Scream Egg”)
- locally sourced coffee
- organic butter and cheese from Organic Herd, the dairy co-operative the farm supplies
- eggs from Rookery Farm
- homemade brownies and blondies
- refillable glass bottles in 500ml and 1 litre sizes
You choose on a screen and pay by contactless card. The farm’s own guide asks people bringing their own containers to use something clean, food-safe and odour-free, and recommends its glass bottles.
Who is behind it
Woodhorn Farm is at Oving, east of the city. The family has farmed there since 1882, according to the farm’s website. It runs a herd of 250 free-range cows and farms 1,500 acres organically on the Chichester Plain and the South Downs.
Most of its milk goes to Organic Herd, which supplies food brands and supermarkets. The Cow Sheds sell it direct. The first opened at Oving Jubilee Hall. The second is at Berries on Tap in Sidlesham, about five miles south of the city.
The farm first announced the Graylingwell site in August, saying the Pavilion put local produce “in the heart of the community”.
Opening day and a Halloween competition
The farm marked the opening with free milkshake and brownie samples, and V2 Radio broadcast from the Pavilion that morning.
It is also running its annual Halloween colouring competition, open to all ages. Sheets can be collected at the Graylingwell or Oving Cow Shed, or downloaded from the farm’s website. Entries close on Saturday 31 October. Drop them at either Cow Shed or email a photo to info@woodhornfarm.co.uk.
What it means for you
- If you live in Graylingwell, Summersdale or Roussillon Park, you no longer need to drive to Oving for the farm’s milk. The Pavilion is inside Graylingwell Park.
- Bring a clean bottle or buy one there. The glass bottles are reusable, and the farm says they are the easiest to keep clean.
- Check before a special trip. The farm has not published separate opening hours for the Graylingwell machines. Its contact details are on the Woodhorn Farm website.
