UKHarvest, which began with one van in Chichester in 2017, has rescued 10 million meals' worth of food. Where its £5 food hubs run across the district.

UKHarvest, the food rescue charity that started with one van in Chichester, has now saved 10 million meals’ worth of food from going to waste. It passed the milestone at 10am on World Food Day, Friday 16 October.

The charity announced it on its website. It says the total comes to 4,200 tonnes of food that would otherwise have been thrown away.

From one van to a warehouse

UKHarvest says it began in March 2017 as “a man, a van and later a lockup in Chichester”. Today it runs:

  • a fleet of vans
  • a warehouse with a chiller and freezer unit
  • Community Food Hubs, where people pay a suggested £5 for a bag of groceries
  • Grub Clubs in 20 primary schools in West Sussex
  • Nourish Hub in West London, and a Nourish Hub Cafe and Community Grub Clubs, both started in January 2026

It collects around 10 tonnes of food a week from farms, growers, producers and distributors. The food goes to communities across the South of England and West London, from Bristol to Margate.

Susannah Day, Chair of the Board, said the charity delivers “affordable food and free food education to thousands of people each year”. Queen Camilla is its Patron.

Lauren Stoner, its interim Chief Operating Officer, thanked the warehouse team, who “have collectively moved the vast majority of those 10 million meals”.
