Emma-Jane Ayre launches Love versus Liquor, her book on 10 years trying to free her son from alcohol addiction, at Tinwood Estate on Thursday 12 November.

A mother who spent ten years trying to free her son from alcohol addiction has written a book about it, and is launching it at Tinwood Estate on Thursday 12 November.

Emma-Jane Ayre’s book is called Love versus Liquor. A friend writing to Chichester Live on her behalf described it as “a true and moving story based on her 10-year struggle to try and release her son from alcohol addiction.”

Why she wrote it

The book is one part of what Emma-Jane is now doing with that experience. Alongside writing it, her friend told us, she has trained as a sobriety coach and gives talks to charities, all aimed at helping “other families going through the heartbreak, stigma and blame that her family has suffered.”

The launch is meant to carry that message further. The aim, in her friend’s words, is “to spread the message on the silent victims of addiction and the lack of support for those who manage to rid themselves of it.”

That is two groups the book speaks for: the families who live alongside someone’s drinking, and the people who stop drinking and then find little help waiting for them afterwards.

The launch

The launch is at Tinwood Estate on Thursday 12 November. The organisers have not yet told us the time, whether the launch is open to the public or by invitation, or where the book will be on sale. We will add them to this page when they are confirmed.

What it means for you

If drink has taken hold of someone in your family, the book is written for you as much as for anyone: its author set out to help families facing what hers did. If you run a charity that supports families affected by addiction, note that Emma-Jane gives talks to charities.
